7 Podcasts for Long Haul Truck Drivers

Feb 3, 2022 | Truck Driving Advise | 0 comments

There’s something freeing about rolling the windows down and turning the volume up on a drive.

But radio stations cut out when you travel from city to city, you can’t always find music you like, and in dead zones you lose all service. That’s where podcasts come in: Download some episodes ahead of time and guarantee entertainment on your trip from start to finish.

In 2018 there were just over 500,000 podcasts globally. Then that number doubled. Then it doubled again. Today, there are over two million active podcasts and over 48 million episodes. Knowing where to start can be daunting, so we’ve compiled a list of the seven best podcasts for long-haul truckers like you.

StarTalk Radio

If driving under the stars inspires you to learn more about them, this is the podcast for you. Hosted by astrophysicist and planetary scientist Neil deGrassse Tyson, StarTalk highlights topics like astronomy, physics, and everything in between about life in our universe. You can expect a new episode every Monday, science fans.

Hardcore History

Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History looks at historical events with a new lens: How would ancient weapons hold up today? Will modern civilizations crumble like others have in the past? Carlin uses the context of our lives now to uncover where people in the past went wrong – and where they went right. Each episode is multiple hours long, making this the perfect podcast for your longest trips.

You’re Wrong About

You may remember learning in school chameleons change colour to match their surroundings, but that’s not entirely true – their colour options are limited, and can even change based on stress levels. Sarah Marshall looks for common misconceptions like this one and lays out the truth in hour-long episodes. Episodes are released once every two weeks.

Bad Friends

In Bad Friends, comedians Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino take shots at each other while discussing pop culture and their experience in the movie industry. This show feels more like having a conversation with your funniest friends than sitting alone in the driver’s seat. You can expect a new side-splitting episode every Tuesday.

Best Friends

If you prefer spending time with friends who are actually nice to each other, Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata are the hosts for you. This is an especially great show for driving alone, since you’ll be laughing out loud from start to finish. Just like Bad Friends, these ladies release a new hour-long episode every Tuesday.

Raman Dhillon Show

The Raman Dhillon show, or Punjabi Trucking 360, dives into all topics surrounding North America’s Punjabi Trucking Industry. Tune in for news, new laws, and other information delivered in the Punjabi language for truckers who want a taste of home on the road. New 25-minute episodes are released weekly.

Trucking for Millennials

While this podcast is directed towards millennials (typically considered people born between the years 1981 and 1996), it’s a great source of information for anyone in the trucking industry. The high-energy hosts discuss changes in the industry, what new truckers need to know, and real stories from others in the industry. With a new episode every Monday, Trucking for Millennials is a great resource for both new and seasoned truck drivers.

If you enjoy the shows on this list, you’ll have plenty of content to keep you entertained for a while. But like we mentioned, the podcast industry is rapidly growing, and new shows are popping up every day. Use these as a starting point, and build up a list of your own for those long trips.
